INTRODUCTION

Hi, my name is Rachel. I have a lifetime love of animals and currently live in Chandlers Ford with my two Greek rescue dogs Arnie and Jimmy.

After 20 years of office employment I have decided that the time has come to follow my passion of working with dogs and am delighted to be able to introduce The Laundromutt!

I offer a caring personal one-to-one service from my purpose-built studio in a calm and relaxing garden environment where my top priority is the comfort and welfare of your dog. I am able to offer a full range of grooming services from nail trimming to a full groom for all breeds large or small.

I am fully insured, have a Level 2 Diploma in Dog Grooming and hold certificates in Dog First Aid Emergency Canine Care and Compassionate Handling & Behaviour. I have also studied T-Touch techniques and am currently doing a course in Dog Behaviour Training to further enhance my knowledge and skills.

With a particular interest in dog rescue and rehabilitation I welcome nervous or anxious dogs and am happy to arrange short regular sessions and spend the extra time helping them to overcome any fears of the grooming process.  There is little more fulfilling than seeing these dogs overcome their fears and learn to enjoy being pampered!

Owners are welcome to stay if you feel this would benefit your pet.

Please see below for further information on all services offered.

The Full Groom service includes a bath, brush and blow dry as above plus full body styling. This will include clipping, hand stripping or scissoring the coat to standard breed or pet style as preferred.  This will be fully discussed before the groom.

PUPPY PAMPER

A perfect way to introduce your puppy to grooming, this service includes a brush through of the coat, eyes and ears will be cleaned and nails trimmed if required followed by a bath using a gentle puppy shampoo and conditioner finishing off with a gentle blow dry and paw tidy.

A FREE first-time puppy visit can be arranged to gently introduce your puppy to the grooming environment.

Please note that puppy grooms are available for puppies up to 6 months old or until their first full groom whichever comes first.

DE-SHEDDING

Perfect for dog breeds that are prone to shedding dead hairs will be removed from your dog's coat. This allows your dog's skin to breathe and helps with temperature regulation. It also helps to reduce the amount of hair in your home and your time hoovering!

DE-MATTING

All dogs can get the occasional mat from time to time and if your dog allows I can remove these from your dog’s coat.

Depending on the severity of the matting, this may involve targeted or general de-matting. In extreme cases where mat removal may cause discomfort or distress to your dog a clip-off may be required. Where identified on arrival his will be fully discussed with you before grooming is started.

HAND STRIPPING

Some dog breeds with a wiry "rough" coat such as Border Terriers ideally need to be hand-stripped at least twice a year to remove dead hair while retaining their natural style and allowing new coat growth.

Why hand-strip instead of clip?
The individual hairs in wiry coats are typically rough on the end with a hard point but soft near the base. Once the hairs of the top coat reach maximum length they begin to die, but remain loosely anchored into the hair follicle until they are shed or removed. If the coat is clipped, the wiry hairs lose their hard rough end and the soft, faded portion grows further out. Regular clipping can cause the entire coat to become permanently soft and dull. Hand-stripping gently removes the dead top coat hairs from the follicle revealing the soft undercoat and allowing the new wiry, brightly coloured top coat to grow in.

If you think your dog could benefit from hand-stripping, we can discuss this before grooming is carried out.

Hand stripping is a more labour intensive process and therefore incurs an extra charge.

FLEA TREATMENT

Fleas are a pesky inconvenience to humans, but can seriously harm our pets, especially if they are older or sick. Fleas feast on their host’s blood: one little flea bite is not a big deal, but imagine hundreds or thousands of fleas feasting on your dog! Fleas can cause anaemia, skin conditions, and even the slow death of your dog if unchecked.

We can treat your dog with a specialist flea shampoo to rid them of any fleas and provide some protection.

Please note that if your dog is found to have fleas during the grooming process a flea treatment will be applied and an extra charge will be incurred to cover the cost of this treatment, and the cleaning necessary to ensure that the salon remains free from fleas.

ULTRASONIC TOOTH CLEANING

I am delighted to announce that I am now able to offer emmi®-pet ultrasonic tooth cleaning

An extremely effective yet very gentle and cost effective way to treat mild to moderate tartar build up. It can also help to prevent gingivitis, periodontitis and calculus, mouth odour and tooth loss by killing the bacteria responsible.

For healthy dog teeth you should start with preventative dental care from the puppy stage so the dog is used to the procedure from the beginning. In this way, you lay the foundation for healthy teeth and gums and save your beloved pet possible lengthy treatment at the vet later in life.

It is estimated that by the time they are 2 years old, 80% of dogs begin to show signs of oral disease.

Gum inflammation, plaque formation, periodontitis or mechanic plaque removal under anesthesia is a burden for both animal and owner. The emmi®-pet has been developed for the treatment of these conditions or ideally used as a prophylactic treatment to prevent them.

With the emmi®-pet your pet is treated in the most comfortable way. The emmi®-pet is silent and motionless during cleaning meaning most dogs will happily accept treatment.

THE PROBLEM
When food particles & bacteria accumulate on your dog’s teeth plaque is formed (a sticky, colourless film that covers teeth when not cleaned). Combined with saliva and minerals over time this transforms into tartar (hardened plaque). This causes gum irritation and eventually leads to an inflammatory condition called gingivitis.

Over time, the gums become more inflamed and the teeth start to become affected. Eventually the tooth will become loose, start to rot and it may even fall out. This is a very painful process and can make it hard for your dog to eat.

Gums have a very good blood supply. Unfortunately, this means that bacteria from tartar can easily get into the blood stream and be transported around the body, potentially damaging internal organs such as the kidney, heart and liver.

HOW IT WORKS
The emmi®-pet has a piezo chip in the brush head which creates up to 96 million air oscillations per minute. When these ultrasound waves are mixed with water and the special toothpaste millions of nano bubbles are created and they keep imploding on each other - this creates a suction effect which removes impurities, plaque and tartar and kills germs and bacteria deep below the gum line & into the smallest gaps between the teeth & gum pockets. It also increases the blood flow to the gums to heal wounds & stop bleeding.

Your pet will be comfortable as the brush is gently held on the teeth. It is completely silent, non vibrating, non-invasive and requires no 'brushing' so most pets will happily accept treatment.
If you would like to know more about emmi®-pet or discuss whether would be suitable for your pet please get in touch.

Treatment is available alongside your regular groom or as a stand-alone service.
